Reading Option Symbols (e.g. AMZN210507C03400000)
The figure below shows how to read option symbols easily.
First, we have the stock symbol (in this example, AMZN, which is the symbol for Amazon). Then, the strike date is encoded in the format YYMMDD. So in this case, it is the 7th May of 2021. Then, a single letter C or P follows, which stands for Call or Put. Lastly, the strike price itself is added. Note that option symbols support up to three digits after the comma, so the price we see here is 3400.000$.
Since the maximum price is 99999$, it will be interesting to see when the OCC changes the option symbol structure again.
